Film Set

Add a new challenge to the list, we were commissioned to design and install a hospital room film set. Due to COVID, our client has not been able to shoot training video content in real hospitals and needed to turn a space in their studio into a realistic hospital room set. The planning for this project was an exciting challenge; procuring unusual (for us) materials, coming us with semi-permanent construction methods, and working on-site out of town all presented opportunities for creative thinking!

French Cleats are a super simple technique to mount heavy objects securely to a wall with minimal installation damage.

In order to make this film set moveable, we created a French cleat system for mounting the main headwall to the existing studio walls. Most of the medical equipment, valves, and electrical outlets are installed on this wall to minimize the modification of the existing wall. As a bonus, this adds dimension and texture to the space and allowed for recessed lighting.

Prop-grade medical equipment (as in, it’s real, but I wouldn’t trust it to save a life), rubber medical office flooring tile, and a customized patient whiteboard add the final touches to this space and make it realistic enough that friends were concerned we had to seek medical attention when we shared photos!

The best part of all is that our clients were thrilled with the result and should be back to their own content creation soon. And we got to stop by the beach to celebrate the completion of another project!
